Who am I?

I’m Rhonda, an Aussie living in the north of Auckland. I’ve only been here for a short time after nearly 10 years away from Australia.  My parents met in Melbourne after migrating there separately in the early 1950s. I grew up there, have lived all over Australia and spent nearly 8 years recently in Singapore and Malaysia. I’ve followed my daughter to New Zealand and am happy to call Aotearoa, New Zealand, home.

Why dye yarn and fibre?

I love colour and breaking the rules creatively. I am a knitter, quilter, sewer, painter and spinner. I’m passionate about the environment and aim to ensure Roxy Fibres is as sustainable and kind to the environment as possible. While I use both natural and acid based dyes, my techniques ensure no amount of dye is wasted and none of it goes down the drain.

All my fibres and yarn bases are sourced from reputable mills in Aotearoa, where their product is sourced domestically. I am an open book. Feel free to ask me where my yarn bases and fibres come from.

Why is this business called Roxy Fibres and why the dog on the logo?

Don’t tell my children but Roxy our Rottweiler was my favourite child (LOL). Sadly, she passed away a few years ago and I have named this business in her memory. The logo for Roxy Fibres is from a lino cut I made in her image.
